Hot Chocolate Gift.

Yesterday I posted about the personalised mugs we made for Christmas presents. Within the mugs, we decided to put some ingredients to make a festive mug of hot chocolate. To make the chocolate, we bought some cooking chocolate, a chocolate mould and some candy canes.

When it came to melting the chocolate we first broke the bar into pieces and put it into a bowl. We used two bars of chocolate for this to ensure we had enough left over to eat from the bowl... It's got to be done! We boiled some water in a pan on the hob and placed the bowl over the pan, being careful to ensure the water didn't touch the bowl. As the chocolate was melting, we stirred it continuously until there were no lumps left, following which we poured the chocolate carefully into the mould. Note, do not use a plastic bowl like I did - that is if you don't want the bowl to melt... A glass one should do the job.

To continue the Christmas theme, we smashed a couple of the candy canes up to sprinkle on top of the melted chocolate. We left the chocolate in the fridge overnight to set and our hot chocolate chunks were complete!

I love hot chocolate, particularly on a cold Winter's day so of course, I saved a few of the chunks for myself!

  1. Ohh this is such a cute idea! It would be great in the mugs with a candy cane popping over the side for a gift. Lovely :)

  2. Thanks Corinne! That's tomorrow's post - how we decorated them.
They look so professional, I can't quite believe we made them ourselves haha! :)
