Upcycled Letter Rack.

We took a long weekend off earlier in the month for my birthday and on one of our little day trips out we visited Harrogate after spending the morning at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (obligatory post here...). Just outside of Harrogate we stumbled upon my new favourite place ever - an antiques emporium home to lots of antiques dealers selling all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Safe to say, I was in my element.

Whilst I was browsing through shelves upon shelves of floral, vintage tea cups and saucers, T found this amazing, industrial style letter rack propped up amongst the paraphernalia. We were sold instantly.

When we got it home, I used some sugar soap and a scourer to clean it up which worked a treat. We then decided to take the metal racks off the board to allow us to spray paint them black. A couple of coats did the job and they were good to go back on to the board. Before we screwed them back on, we needed to spray the handle of the board to match. I coated the surrounding area with masking tape so as not to get the paint on the board itself and then T did the honours. I love the end result. We did consider painting the board in chalk paint but I think it looks a lot more industrial and authentic as it is. We put it up in the kitchen in replace of one of our old chalk boards and it fits in perfectly with our pallet wine racks and kitchen decor.

What do you think?
Have you ever bought anything from an antiques shop before?

  1. This is such a cute idea! The end result looks brilliant, you did a really good job :) It looks like you could use it to store so many things and it's even handy for being able to hang things on :)
