White Cross Bay Holiday Park.

My favourite place to go on holiday in the UK has got to be the Lake District. If you've never been then you are most definitely missing out. People travel from all over the world to visit this beautiful place. We've bumped into an array of nationalities whilst there including Australian, Canadian, America, Chinese and Norwegian

Last week we spent the week at White Cross Bay holiday park which is situated just outside the town of Ambleside on the Lake Windermere. Ambleside is a lovely, little town with lots of independent shops, cafe's and pubs. It still has a quaint, 'Lakes' feel about it and its not commercialised as the likes of Bowness and Keswick are. The town is surrounded by beautiful fells and a short walk away is Waters Head which is a smaller part of the town right on the lake itself. Note: Water's Head Cafe does THE BEST blueberry scones you could ever imagine. Having one of these after a long day walking is heaven.

Anyway, there was myself, Toby, my Mam and Dad and the two doglets staying in a 'bronze lodge' during our little holiday. The lodge was perfect for our needs although a bigger veranda and a better view would have been an added bonus. It had a kitchen and sitting room in one with basic furniture, a fire for cold evenings and everything you would need for an enjoyable stay. There were two spacious bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds and there was also a decent sized bathroom with a big shower in it! This is important as some lodges only have tiny, caravan sized showers and I can't be dealing with that!

The park itself has lots of facilities including a pub, a swimming pool a spa and a sports area. We didn't use any of these though as we spent our days on long walks on the fells and our nights chilled on the veranda with a bbq and a cold beer. Absolute bliss.

Here's some pics of the lodge itself. Although only basic, it's the perfect little base for an amazing time in the Lakes. You can also upgrade to a silver or gold lodge if you wish.

What do you think? Have you been to the Lakes before?
