Our California Road Trip Plan.

Book honeymoon, tick.

Last year we stayed put in the UK with our only holidays being a couple of nights camping and a few nights in the Lakes. This meant we could save our pennies for our wedding in July this year. It's all for a good cause but oh my days I'm itching to jet off into the sun. A lack of holidays for the past 12+ months means we have decided to book the most epic honeymoon possible.

We've chosen California. We've chosen a road trip. We've chosen 7 locations in 15 nights. We've chosen a Mustang. Because why the heck not??

So here are the locations we have chosen and why.

San Francisco

San Fran will bring the city vibes to our honeymoon. Toby has always wanted to see the Golden Gate bridge, which we plan on cycling over (god help me) and I think visiting Alcatraz would be really interesting. Tilly's vlog has also made me excited to visit Pier 39 when we're there too.

Lake Tahoe

After a 3.5 hour journey we will land in Lake Tahoe, where we are staying in a Lakeside lodge, complete with a log burner in our room. This place looks beautiful and adds another dimension to our honeymoon - a move from the big city to beautiful natural scenery. Here we want to try our hand at some water sports...

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite looks unreal. I think this is the destination I am most looking forward too. It looks like the Lakes (one of my favourite places) but on steroids. I keep finding myself getting lost in Yosemite hashtags on Instagram for hours on end. There's so many different places that I want to visit here that I know I'm going to have to be ruthless and pick a select few to fit in the 2 nights we have here. Suggestions v v welcome!

Monterey & Pismo Beach

To get to Monterey and then Pismo Beach we need to travel back to the coast from Yosemite. I'm looking forward to the journey along the coast. I bet it takes twice as long as it should with us stopping to take in the different sights. We have chosen Monterey and Pismo Beach as stop off's to get to Huntington Beach so we're not 100% sure what we want to do here yet. More research is required, although sunbathing and eating Monterey cheese are definitely high priorities on our list!

Huntington Beach

Toby came here when he was younger to play hockey for GB. He spent 99% of his three weeks here inside the rink so he's desperate to go back and do Huntington Beach properly. We've booked a really nice hotel here and plan to sunbathe and visit some car places for T.

Las Vegas

And last but not least, we are going to drive four plus hours to Viva Las Vegas to stay in the beautiful Venetian hotel. We're thinking casino's, pool parties, taking in the sights along the strip and a trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.

Have you ever been to California? Do you have any advice/suggestions/recommendations?

  1. How fun! Taking a 'Stang is going to be such an adventure. I LOVE Huntington Beach and the Grand Canyon is absolutely beautiful! Hopefully it won't be too hot.
